Celery and Fruit Smoothie

Celery and Fruit Smoothie

Working at home today meant one thing: smoothie! On most work days, I’m way too tired to make a fun smoothie, but since I wouldn’t have to drive anywhere, a smoothie just sounded perfect today. I didn’t have spinach though, so I made do with celery.

Let me start by saying this: I don’t like celery. I think it’s boring, and contrary to all the people who say it tastes like nothing, I think celery has a very distinct taste and it’s one that I do not like. But when you don’t your favorite green, you need to compromise (and add lots of fruit) to make your smoothie tasty.

Most of the ingredients, minus Stevia and ice

I chopped up the celery as much as I could before I ran the risk of slicing a finger tip off. Just kidding, but I did want to chop the stalk into tiny pieces. I combined all the delicious fruit–blueberries, strawberries and apples–and the oats into this bowl. Angie still has a bit of yogurt left, so I snagged this one.

Getting ready to blend

I love seeing all the different colors when I’m about to blend it. It really reminds me of a pretty rainbow that’s about to go for the ride of its life.

Ta-da!

And here it is! I didn’t taste the celery at all, although I suspect that’s because I didn’t use much of it, and I used a ton of fruit. I’ve never used Stevia before, and so I’m not sure if it did much, but I’m hoping that it helped mask the celery taste, too.

Almost finished

  1. So your the culprit of the only plain yogurt we had left I had to use the 0% vanilla for my pumpkin concoction tonight! Check out what I just ate on my blog for my late night treat it was so good! I’m happy i used the vanilla yogurt, I think i’m gonna start buying Chobani Vanilla flavor for smoothies… (but obviously were still stocking up on FAGE!)

  10. I totally think that celery has a taste too! But I actually like–especially in fresh juice! Yum. 🙂

  11. That smoothie looks great! Never would have though to put oats in my smoothie!

I use ALL types of greens in my shakes. In fact, it is best to rotate your greens every week! I use spinach, kale, mustard greens, beet greens, romaine, you name it!!!

  12. Sruthi says:

Looks great! I never thought of adding celery, I have some celery left will use it to make this smoothie.

  13. Lisa says:

I’ve never put celery in a smoothie—anticipating that it wouldn’t get smooth. Other greens I use besides spinach are romaine, watercress, cilantro, parsley…once in a while kale, but I don’t prefer that one!

  14. Kat says:

mmm I wonder if I could tolerate celery this way. I have tried juicing it before and I could NOT do it. It was gross. But maybe in smoothie and sweetened a bit would work. Thx for the idea!!

  15. Erika says:

I love Green Monster smoothies with spinach, but I’ve never tried it with any other green. I heard kale was good in smoothies.
